Job Description:

A Database Administrator is required to support and deliver on time sensitive initiatives. The Database Administrator is responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of a database. The successful candidate will work with various technology teams to coordinate deliverables, including planning, development, and troubleshooting.
The candidate will provide services under the direction of the Senior Technical Manager, Data Collection Projects team, and Project PM. The assignment entails working with managers, team leads, program analysts, and subject matter experts. 

6 months contract.

Job Requirements:

Responsibilities / Skills:
·         Ensure that data remains consistent across the database;
·         Data is clearly defined; users access data concurrently, in a form that suits their needs; and provision for data security and recovery control (all data is retrievable in an emergency)
·         10 years’ experience working in a multi-database platform environment with Oracle, SQL, DB2 and at least 2 other database platforms.
·         Should have knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Manager(OEM)Experience of Space management activities like Table space creation, modification, etc.
·         Experience implementing Oracle's Database Gateway
·         Experience in Automatic Storage databases
·         Experience in IBM DB2 with strong Data partitioning skills
·         Experience in migrating data from DB2 to Oracle
Technology Architect must have the following skills and experience:
·         Over 10 years’ experience with Oracle Database and technology, including Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC)
·         Over 5 years’ experience with UNIX (Solaris) and Windows Server experience; troubleshooting, problem solving, performance tuning; hardware and system software infrastructure architecture design
·         Previous experience working with the OPS ( i.e. - Ministry of Health, Ministry of Transportation);
·         In- depth knowledge of Oracle database, clustering and dataguard technologies; and knowledge of in memory databases, performance monitoring.
Responsibilities include some or all of the following:
·         Establishing the needs of users and monitoring user access and security
·         Monitoring performance and managing parameters to provide fast query responses to front-end users
·         Mapping out the conceptual design for a planned database in outline;
·         Considering both back-end organisation of data and front-end accessibility for end-users; refining the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model; further refining the physical design to meet system storage requirements
·         Installing and testing new versions of the DBMS; maintaining data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act
·         Writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata)
·         Controlling access permissions and privileges
·         Developing, managing and testing back-up and recovery plans; ensuring that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery procedures are functioning correctly;
·         Capacity planning
·         Working closely with IT project managers, database programmers and multi media programmers;
·         Communicating regularly with technical, applications and operational staff to ensure database integrity and security; and
·         Decommissioning and installing new applications and customizing existing applications in order to make them fit for purpose.
